As we move through our year of wellbeing, we’ve spent March looking at ways to get more movement into our lives. A little iron pumping, some stretching and quite a bit of extra walking is on the menu. Read on to find out a few of the activities that can be added to an active day!

Sue – It’s been all about the “plus one” for me this movement month. The local aquatic centre runs great mat Pilates classes so I’ve added an extra class to my usual once per week schedule and while walking, I have added carrying hand weights, so I can pump a little iron along the way. Small changes done consistently is the key.

Kendi – I decided to add a new class to my weekly yoga schedule. It’s called yoga barre, so I expected – obviously – yoga….but somehow it has morphed into a ballet class. We’re all channelling our inner five-year-olds and we’re all objectively hopeless, but it’s a surprisingly hard workout and we’re all having fun. I just bought my first new pair of ballet shoes in 30 years!

Alex – I’ve been trying to do something active every day. Usually it’s a walk before work, and my soccer season has just kicked off, so training and weekend games are now back as part of my routine. And I can’t forget getting to my parents’ place and taking my dog for a walk on the weekends – although he’s a little older now and struggles to keep up!

Shereen – This month, I’ve focused on adding a little extra to each day. While I already have my regular workouts, I’ve been fitting in mini walks throughout the day, choosing the stairs over the lift, doing squats and lunges while the kettle boils, stretching during TV time, and I even downloaded an app with 8-minute workouts that have been great little additions to my routine. Every little bit adds up.

Karen – My new year’s resolution was to be more active on a daily basis. Walking the 400m uphill back from feeding our horses on the property, a turn on my exercise bike, game of table tennis with my daughter and a few basic stretching/toe touching exercises have been established as part of my day. All four is a good effort, three is a pass, two is a bit slack but will catch up tomorrow…
