The Federal Election date is yet to be set, but with a deadline of May 17, we know it’s going to be soon. Whether you want to jump in now and make a few valuable connections before polling day, or you’re thinking about how to better connect with those who turn the cogs of the machine in the longer term, there are a few simple things you can do.

Importantly, it’s worth remembering that you don’t have to have a huge team, run a massive business or hire a lobbyist to have worthwhile engagement with government.

In fact, there’s always value in being connected to your local MPs and relevant ministers, and the departments and people they work with.

Here are a some of the things we have supported clients with:

  • Getting media releases in front of relevant politicians without even needing a media hit
  • Adding policy discussion to social media channels and advising who to tag so you don’t look partisan
  • Identifying whose radar to be on – not just relevant ministers but MPs in your electorate
  • Understanding why every single politician, no matter how high they have risen, will be more interested in what you have to say if it matters to their electorate
  • Finding and following inquiries, reviews and Parliamentary interest groups
  • How to let the big industry groups do the heavy lifting
